Should gutters be flush with fascia?

The gutters should extend beyond the roof tiles, not align with them. Water naturally flows through the shingles, along the edge of the shingles and even under them. When gutter sections are installed directly in line with the roof tiles, the shingles impair the natural flow of water. Rainwater can flow to the end cap and is likely to leak.

The space between the gutter and the roof can vary in size because the gutters must be tilted towards the downspout to ensure proper water runoff. Notice how the gutter attaches to those blocks and where the lower edge of the fascia is relative to the gutter. Let the experienced installers at All Season Gutters know the right way to install gutters. An unfortunate truth of gutter installation is that you may not be able to capture all of your rainwater management needs with a conventional gutter system.

That's why we want to make sure you know everything you need to know about your home's gutter system, and especially the installation of roofs and gutters. If you install the gutters so that they extend beyond the shingles, you allow the natural flow of water to fall into the rain gutter, just as it is supposed to. So far, the most logical explanation I got from a couple of contractors (one of them got the job) was that the original gutters were wooden gutters. The gutter apron is also necessary for rubber roofing, but in that case, the roof rubber can simply be configured to hang in the gutter.

A professional gutter installation company will use a level during installation to ensure that the gutters are sloped. In fact, for every 10 feet of gutter length, you only need a ¼ inch drop from the center to the downspout for the gutters to drain properly. Maybe you need to address a roof tile situation, or you need to add a downspout between an upper gutter and a lower roof gutter. A good rule of thumb is to make sure that the gutters lean toward the downspouts at a quarter of an inch for every 10 feet of your gutter.

Instead of letting them fall into the gutter channel, you may want your gutter installer to trim the shingles. Because gutter installation isn't one of the most complicated construction projects, sometimes homeowners can take on the task themselves or hire someone who doesn't have the experience to install their gutters. Any gutter material that can be purchased at a home remodeling store will not be as strong as what a professional gutter company offers.
